It feels really sucky to live in a society where the overwhelming majority of interracial representation reflects a conventionally racist and misogynistic perception of, specifically, the relations between black men and white women.

I see GIFs floating around tumblr all the time of ‘sensual’, ‘romantic’, ‘emotional’ sex, or glorified photos of either white or otherwise racially-homogenous couples—none that I have (so far) been able to relate to. (This is not to say that ‘aggressive’, etc. sex isn’t attractive, because it sure as hell is, but refer to the first paragraph.) Instead I get to enjoy my relationships being reduced to mere fetishism and some derogatory form of hyper-sexuality.

And let’s not forget pop culture and the general public constantly derailing white women for predominantly dating non-white men. Also keep in mind that the relationships are rarely presented as mutual. Apparently these black men are not cognizant of the fact that they’re dating white women! See: Kim K and anyone she’s ever had a relationship with, “night riders”, and any other sort of demeaning terms you can think of.

Not to mention that many people have an even harder time trying to see themselves and their partners respectfully represented in the mainstream, heteronormative world, if at all.

What I’m basically getting at is: People are shit.
